What is a site assessment, and why it makes or breaks the job
The visit between the sale and the work is where most operations leak time, money and trust. Here's how to run it well.
Almost every trade that sells work before doing it has a visit in the middle: someone goes to the customer's location, looks at the real conditions, and gathers what's needed to do the job right. In solar it's a site assessment; in HVAC a load or pre-install visit; in roofing an inspection; in renovation an in-home estimate. Whatever you call it, it's the hinge the whole job swings on.
Why the middle visit matters so much
Get it right and everything downstream is smooth: engineering has what it needs, the install team isn't surprised, and the customer feels looked after. Get it wrong and you pay for it repeatedly — a return trip for a missed measurement, a redesign because the electrical panel couldn't take the load, a customer who went cold while they waited for a quote.
Where site assessments break down
In our experience the failures cluster in a few predictable places:
- Booking the wrong person. Someone gets scheduled who doesn't actually cover the area, or the day gets stacked so tightly the last visit runs late.
- Inconsistent capture. Different field staff collect different things. Photos live on phones. A field is blank and nobody notices until the office needs it.
- Slow, manual paperwork. The report gets assembled by hand days later, and the customer's enthusiasm cools while they wait.
- Dropped handoffs. The results sit in an inbox instead of flowing to the people who do the next step.
What a well-run assessment looks like
A good site-assessment workflow is boringly consistent. The right person is booked for the address and the day finishes on time. Every visit collects the same structured data and photos. The report is generated automatically on your brand and signed — often before the specialist leaves. And the results flow straight back to whoever picks up next.
That consistency is exactly what Norwon is built to provide. See how the workflow runs end to end, or book a demo to walk through it on your own process.
